Oz magazine

Sixties underground magazine Oz (cover of issue one above) has a legendary place in magazine history, both for it’s establishment-shaking attitude and its radical aestheic inovation of graphic design and layout. It did not follow the codes and conventions of the norm and which were socially accepted, this is probally why the magazine didnt overall have huge succsess.

Sorry Lucy but you have this wrong on several counts. Firstly, none of the three covers you show are of OZ 1 (see http://www.wussu.com/zines/ozimages/oz01cov.jpg), plus I think you have really over-simplified the reason for Oz's demise. Actually it was hugely successful for the 48 editions it produced between Feb 1967 and Nov 1973. Complete sets now sell for over £4,000, by the way, and will no doubt double in value after the summer release of Beeban Kidron's movie featuring Sienna Miller and Max Minghella and Cillian Murphy as the young Richard Neville.
